TEA CUP INN CLOSES AFTER 20 YEARS

THE FAMOUS TEA CUP INN CLOSED AFTER 20 YEARS

Mrs. Jessie L. Higgins Retires From The Business She Built At Hulls Cove

Mrs. Jessie L. Higgins, for more than 20 years owner of the Tea Cup Inn at Hulls cove, has retired from business and has closed the Inn.  Mrs. Higgins is giving up the business because of her health which demands complete rest for a time.  Mrs. Higgins was one of the pioneers in the tea house business of Mount Desert Island.  She built up the business from a small house, where a few people went to enjoy excellent tea and a beautiful view from a lovely site to where it is now, one of the finest tea houses in New England.  Mrs. Higgins clientèle has been drawn from the summer residents of the entire island, from the permanent residents and from tourists.  Probably, had there been a registry book in the years of the Inn, every state in the Union would have been represented.  Mrs. Higgins ability and her hospitality as well as her cookery, much of which, even as the Inn's patrons grew into hundreds, she personally supervised has given the Tea Cup Inn a name synonymous with the best in the Tea House service.  Everyone will regret the closing of the Inn under Mrs. Higgins Management and ownership.  It has been a real asset to the island one to which strangers have been directed with pride by townspeople and where the townspeople themselves have looked forward to going with delight.
