SOUTHWEST HARBOR'S FIRST TOWN MEETING

The first town meeting of the new town of Southwest Harbor was held in Masonic Hall Marth 6th.  Moderator, Merle E. Tracy.  The officers as given last week were elected.  Appropriations;  for support of schools;  $1500, repairs on same;  $200.  for support of poor and insane;  $1300, for repairs of highways and bridges;  $800,  for breaking snow;  $50, to purchase text book for schools;  $150, for all other necessary town charges;  $1000.  To pay Southwest Harbor water company for use of five hydrants;  $375, to pay town of Tremont for their interest in fire hose, horse cart and safe;  $350, for tutition of scholars attending high school or academy out of town;  $175,  for repairs of side walks;  $200, for memorial day exercises;  $15, for public library;  $25,  to pay its portiional part of the debt of the town of Tremont;  $1400.  Voted that no fire crackers be allowed to be used in the town of Southwest Harbor;   Voted to give no discount on taxes and all taxes not paid before January 1st, 1906, shall draw 6 percent interest from October 1st, 1905.  Largest vote cast was 191 for road commissioner.  A large number of ladies were present at the meeting.  The day was fine.
