Sixty Bar Harbor Citizens May Take Dives In 0-1 As Guests Of Navy Department - Arrives Here Sunday

Bar Harbor is to have a submarine for Navy Day, Wednesday, October 27.  The 0-1 will arrive here on Sunday, October 24.  At least 60 citizens of Bar Harbor will be given opportunity to make dives in the vessel during her visit to this port.  The Board of Trade will give a dance in honor of the officers and men of the 0-1, the date not yet being announced.  Following is the letter received by the selectmen announcing the visit of the submarine.

The Honorable Mayor of the City of Bar Harbor,
Bar Harbor, Maine.
Dear Sir;
It is with pleasure that I can advise you that on 24 October, 1926, the United States Submarine 0-1 will arrive at Bar Harbor, for the participation of Navy Day celebrations on 27 October 1926.
The Navy Department of the United States has designated the anniversary of the birthday of the late President Roosevelt, 27 October, as the "at home" day of the United States Navy and the object being to promote interest in Naval material and operation of all classes of vessels and equipment.  This vessel will be open for inspection to the public from 9;00 A. M. to 11;30 A. M. and 1;00 P. M. to 5;00 P. M..  Duty authorized events will be provided to explain the various features and functions of the vessel.
It is requested that you invite certain citizens not to exceed sixty to make dives on the vessel if they desire.  If opportunity arises more may be carried.
The mean draft of the 0-1 is fifteen feet and information is requested concerning docking factities and the need of a pilot.

Engineer Officer
