FAMILY PROFILES
EDEN, MAINE
From the Hand written Journals of Eden Hamon.
Tobias Roberts married the widow, Mary Nichols and settled at Bar Harbor in about 1839. He kept a small retail country store, did some land surveying, was a member of the superintending school committee some years, and was the first in Bar Harbor to take summer boarders, built the Agamont, which was the first hotel built at Bar Harbor. He was a prominent and influential citizen of Eden and did much to develop the place into the famous watering resort it now is. He died Oct. 22, 1879.

Married and settled at Bar Harbor. Landlord and storekeeper.
2. Irena O. born May 17, 1838. Married Fred J. Alley. Lived at Bar Harbor. She is dead.
3. Agnes S. Born May 31, 1842. Died Nov. 15, 1861.
4, John L. Born May 19, 1845. Died Oct. 10, 1861.
5. William M. Born Feb. 27, 1848. Married Miriam H. Ash. Settled at Bar Harbor and was a hotel landlord. Living now.
Jeremiah Stevens married (1) Eunice, daughter of Thomas and Polly Freye Wasgatt. He was a ship builder and sea captain and came from Portland. Lived - and his wife died - at Hulls Cove. Was one of the selectmen of Eden in 1819 - 1820, 1821.
There children were;
1. Jonathan Ignatius born Jan. 6, 1812. He resided in Portland and was a sea captain. He once visited Hulls cove and seeing the delapidated condition of the old school house, built the present one and gave it to the district with $1,000 as a fund, the income of which is to be expended by a committee as directed by his will. He also caused tombstones to be set at his mothers grave. She died Feb. 17, 1820.

Jeremiah Stevens married (2) Miss Betsy Fisher of Blue Hill. Published July 22, 1822.
Solomon Stevens of Trenton married Betsy, daughter of John Thomas, 5th, and Elizabeth Cousins Thomas. Published Dec. 7, 1805. Had one child - Calvin.
John Stevens married Dolly, daughter of William and Mary Fernald Blunt.

I have been unable to learn much about these Stevens. I presume Jeremiah Solomon and John were brothers.

John Somincby was published to Dorcas, daughter of Daniel and Betsy Hamor Rodick, Nov. 8, 1805. Settled at Hulls Cove. Ship Carpenter and I think was a master workman.
He died Feb. 18, 1828

Joseph Bunker married Ruth, daughter of Elisha and Bathaheba Hamor Cousins.

John born Jan. 16, 1802 Married Sarah ?. He was a Baptist Minister and lived a while on Cranberry Isle, than moved to Eden where he preached a few years, than moved to Jordan's River, Trenton, than to Ellsworth.

4. Seth born May 15, 1800. Married Hannah, daughter of James and Elizabeth Smalledge Campbell Dec. 22, 1825. Settled on his father's farm at Hulls cove. Farmer and seaman. He died Oct. 17, 1846, She died Oct. 24, 1856.

6. Edmund born Jan. 10, 1835. Married Mary, daughter of Edwin and Nancy Doane Young. Settled in trenton, where he died.
7. Meltire T. born feb. 8, 1837. Died Feb. 17, 1863.
8. Mary D. born Sept. 22, 1840. Adopted by Capt. William Peach and his wife, Marina.

Job Stanwood and his family. Quotations from Maine Historical Magazine.
I have copied the following from the old Mt. desert Record book.
"A record of the bearths and Deaths of Job Stanwood and his wife Martha and their children.
First son Benjamin Bradstreet Stanwood was born June 19th 1776.
Second son Humphrey Bradstreet Stanwood was born May 20th, 1768.
Third son Enoch Tickburn Stanwood was born April 21, 1768.
Forth son David Stanwood was born Aug. 22nd, 1774.
Their daughter Sarah Stanwood was born Oct. 18th, 1774.
Job Stanwood died July 27th, 1776."
Mr. Fountain Rodick of Bar Harbor told me that he heard that when Job Stanwood came east he settled on cranberry Island and lived there a few years than moved to Duck Brook where he died. His widow married (2) Robert Young.

Benjamin B. Stanwood's wife Margaret died and he married (2) Mrs. Helpa Hotchkiss.

Humphrey Stanwood's wife Mary died Oct. 18, 1825 and he married (2) Mrs. Hannah Leland, widow of Captain Amarish Leland. They lived in their old age with their son Enoch H. Leland.

3. Ebenezer Jr. born ?. He was a prominent citizen of eden. Settled on his Father's farm at Salisbury Cove. Married Abagail, daughter of Henry Knowles.

2. Thankful born March 4, 1801. Married William, son of Col. Cornelius Thompson.
3. Reuben born Nov. 28, 1802. Married (1) Almira, daughter of John and Dorcas Rodick Suminsby. Settled at Bar Harbor near Humphrey Stanwood's. Ship carpenter. She died Feb. 13, 1866.

1. Abagail born Sept. 3, 1827. Married Andrew J. Mills. Now living at Salisbury Cove.
2. John S. born April 13, 1829. Married Endora, daughter of Capt. John and Sally Leland Mcfarland, and widow of George P. Higgins. Settled at emery's cove, than at Bar Harbor on Eagle Lake Road, where he kept a boarding house some years. Was a master shipwright. She died in 1907.
3. Warren H. born Sept. 20, 1831. Married Cornelia E., daughter of Jonathan and Hannah Brewer Hamor and widow of Warren F. Higgins. Seaman.
4. Thomas S., born Nov. 2, 1833. Died Jan. 5, 1836.
Almira, wife of Reuben Salisbury, died Feb. 13, 1866 and on Dec. 29, 1871 he married Mrs. Thankful Trussel of Cranberry Isle. They afterwards moved to Town Hill where they died.

4. Stephen born Oct. 14, 1804. Married Jane Harden of Treton.
5. Bethuel born Dec. 1, 1806. Married Elizabeth, daughter of John and Dorcas Rodick Suminsby July 9, 1829. Settled at Bar Harbor on Eddy's Hill on the North side of eden Street. Was a ship captain. Selectman in Eden in 1858 - 1859. Collector of taxes in Eden two or three years.
There children were;

2. Samuel E. born July 2, 1834. Died Oct. 31, 1896 - unmarried.
3. Stephen S. born Feb. 9, 1837. Married Sarah E. Cunningham. Settled at Bar Harbor on corner of Eden and Kebo Street.
4. Adaniram J. born March 15, 1839. Married Mavilla M. Richards.
5. Emma L. born Jan. 20, 1843.
6. Oliva born May 20, 1845, died Dec. 1, 1865.

6. Jane born Dec. 9, 1808, Married samuel, son of samuel and Hannah Hamor Fish. Settled at salisbury Cove.
7. Elbridge, born Oct. 15, 1811. Married Mehitable , daughter of Stephen and Anna Snow Salisbury. Settled in Salisbury Cove. Ship Carpenter and farmer.
